My Artwork:

Artist Statement-Jill Jeannides

Jill Jeannides was born in Chicago, Illinois. In 2000, Jill earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has done additional studies in Chautauqua, New York, Aix-en-Provence, France, Vienna, Austria and Los Angeles, California.

Jeannides is interested in culture’s relationship to location. “Globalization uses media culture to replace authentic local culture.” In response, Jill creates her own authentic cultural experience by observing and recording places of global exchange in attempt to “re-localize the delocalization of my culture and heritage.” By creating hand-made paintings and textiles from digital imagery, Jeannides challenges the notion that digital tools supersede human ability.

In 2007, Jill’s video work was showcased at the Whitney Museum at Altria in New York City. In 2008, sixteen of Jill’s paintings and prints were exhibited at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. In 2011 Jill’s work was installed in the Office of the Mayor of Chicago.
